Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov met with representatives of the Jewish community in Bulgaria

Today, April 1, 2026, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov held a meeting at the Palace of Justice in Sofia with Dr. Alina Levi, Chair of the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom”; Maxim Delchev, Chair of the Central Israelite Religious Council, Nikolay Galabov, Chairman of the Federation of Zionists in Bulgaria, Victor Melamed, Director of the American Jewish Committee’s office in Bulgaria and Rabbi Salamon, Chief Rabbi of the Chabad Jewish Center in Bulgaria, at their request on the occasion of the Jewish holiday Passover.

During the talks, issues related to countering radicalization, xenophobia, and any manifestations aimed at sowing division and intolerance in society were discussed.

In a time of tension and military conflicts around the world, zero tolerance for hate speech, anti-Semitism, and violence is of particular importance to modern society. Achieving this is a guarantee of citizens’ rights and freedoms, justice, and humanism, the meeting participants emphasized.

The Prosecutor General reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to zero tolerance for hate crimes and assured that the Prosecutor’s Office works daily, within the powers granted to it by law, to prevent anti-democratic acts in society and to promote values such as understanding and tolerance.

The Prosecutor General assured that the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria will continue to cooperate with non-governmental organizations working to promote human rights, religious and ethnic tolerance.
