Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office carries out an inspection under Art. 145, para. 1 of the Judicial System Act in view of data on a possible crime of general nature committed by high-ranking officials of  General Directorate National Police

On February 10, 2022, prosecutors at Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SCPO) separated materials from the initiated pre-trial proceedings on the case of Bulgargaz in view of data for a crime under Article 282 of the Penal Code committed by high-ranking officials of General Directorate National Police (GDNP).

After analyzing the materials of the case, the supervising prosecutors found reports prepared with regard to an inspection on file of GDNP containing handwritten resolutions with instructions indicating the initiation of pre-trial proceedings and detention of a person for 24 hours.

In this regard, the supervising prosecutors considered that the provision of Art. 15 of the Ministry of Interior Act, according to which the superior heads of the investigative bodies "have no right to give instructions for carrying out actions in the investigation and for drawing up a written opinion, as well as in any other way to interfere in the investigation."

In view of the above, the relevant materials were separated and an investigation was launched to establish all relevant circumstances.

The information shall be provided after permission of the supervising prosecutors under Article 198 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The public will be informed about the results of the inspection in a timely manner.
