The Deputy Prosecutor General Maria Pavlova, the Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bulgaria Stefan Roecken and Dr. Klaus Fiesinger, Regional Director of the Hans Seidel Foundation, opened the two-day seminar in Sandanski on Countering illegal migration and human trafficking.
The seminar takes place in the context of Bulgaria's upcoming accession to the Schengen area by air and water on 31 March 2024.
Speakers at the event are the Head of Burgas District Prosecutor's Office Georgi Chinev, prosecutor from the Supreme Prosecutor's Office Sava Petrov, investigator and spokesperson of the National Investigative Service Marian Marinov and Rumiana Tozova, investigator at the National Investigative Service.
Moderator of the seminar is Dr. Helmut Palder, former advisor at the Bavarian Ministry of Justice. Representatives of the German Public Prosecutor's Office and the Bavarian Federal Police also took part in the event.
Among the discussed topics are the legal instruments for counteracting irregular migration, the importance of international cooperation in this area. Also, concrete cases from practice in Bulgaria and Germany to be presented.
