Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov held a meeting with representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who are on a working visit to our country.
The delegation is headed by Nozim Abbas Ugli Khojaev - Deputy Head of the International Department of the Prosecutor's Office in Uzbekistan. On the Bulgarian side, the meeting was attended by Maria Pavlova – Deputy Prosecutor General, Tsvetomir Yosifov – Head of International Department at the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office, Emiliya Rusinova – Deputy Head of Sofia Prosecutor's Office of Appeal and Iliana Kirilova, Head of Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.
Acting Prosecutor General discussed with the representatives of the Uzbek Prosecutor's Office the possibilities for deepening bilateral cooperation in criminal law matters, the fight against organized crime and countering illegal migration.
Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov raised the question of the extradition of Iliyan Todorov, wanted with a European Arrest Warrant (EAW), who was established in Uzbekistan in March 2023. Todorov has an effective sentence for the murder of two young men, as well as for attempted murder.
The Prosecutor General emphasized the priority nature of the case for the Bulgarian side and the necessity for the person to serve the sentence of "life imprisonment" imposed in 2013 by the Supreme Cassation Court in the Republic of Bulgaria.
