"Effective prosecution is a guardian of public interest and international values that we have addopted as our creed, through the correct and uniform implementation of the Law". This was stated by Daniela Masheva, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria, during the Third Working Forum of the Prosecutors General of the Balkan States, which is being held on November 9 and 10 in Bucharest, Romania.
"Success in the fight against cross-border organized crime is possible only when establishing mechanisms for cooperation between prosecutors, direct contact and coordinated actions," noted Masheva.
On the part of Bulgaria, the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General, Siyka Mileva, who also attended the forum, emphasized that the interaction and dialogue between the prosecutor's offices from the Balkan Peninsula is a guarantee for security in the region, for overcoming the difficulties faced by investigative bodies created by the geopolitical situation, as well as for effective development of the skills and practice of magistrates in individual countries.
This year’s Third Balkan Forum of the Prosecutors General was held under the patronage of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation of Romania. The event was also attended by representatives of the Prosecutor's Offices of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey.
The Prosecutor General of Romania Gabriela Scutea, the President of the High Court of Cassation and Justice Corina-Alina Corbu, the Minister of Justice Cătălin Predoiu, the President of the Constitutional Court of Romania Marian Enache addressed the forum participants.
The Working Forum of the Prosecutors General of the Balkan States was established by the initiative of the leadership of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Turkey. The first meeting was held in October 2019 in Izmir, Turkey, and the Second Balkan Forum was held in June 2021 in Sofia. The forum aims to strengthen the good cooperation between prosecutors from the Balkan Peninsula in criminal matters, the prevention and counteraction of cross-border organized crime such as drug trafficking, trafficking of weapons and illegal migration.
