The opportunity for anti-corruption training of Bulgarian prosecutors, investigators and financial intelligence officers was discussed at a working meeting between Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and the American jurists Dr. Kevin Carroll and Dr. Remy Gerbay. The two experts are in Bulgaria to participate in the International Conference "Cross border investments in a changing world: sanctions, screening and dispute resolutions", organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
Deputy Prosecutor General Elena Karakasheva, the Chairman of the Supreme Bar Council and Deputy Chairman of the Court of Arbitration at the BCCI Dr. Ivaylo Dermendzhiev and Branimir Botev, President of the European League for Economic Cooperation, also participated in the meeting held in the Palace of Justice in Sofia.
Dr. Kevin Carroll and Dr. Remy Gerbay have many years of professional experience in anti-corruption policies, investment protection and arbitration procedures.
Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov highlighted the necessity to increase the capacity of Bulgarian institutions in the fight against cross-border financial crimes. In this regard, the opportunity was discussed for the US experts to conduct training for Bulgarian magistrates and representatives of the special services on the mechanisms for tracking financial assets, anti-corruption, sanctions, anti-money laundering and screening of foreign investments.
