The legal aspects of countering terrorism at international level discussed at a meeting in Tel Aviv the heads and high representatives of the Prosecutor's Offices of the State of Israel, EU Member States, the United States and others. On the Bulgarian side, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov attended the forum organized by the Ministry of Justice of Israel.
„It is our duty to fight terrorism for the sake of the international community and the citizens of the countries of the world who share the principles of justice and humanity“, stated Attorney General of Israel, Gali Baharav Miara, at the opening of the forum. State Attorney of Israel Amit Aisman emphasized the global importance of countering terrorist organizations and the application of legal instruments in this process.
Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov emphasized the active role of Bulgaria in the fight against terrorism within the European Union - guaranteeing the security of the external borders and the prosecution of perpetrators of terrorist attacks and participants in radical groups. Sarafov recalled that the perpetrators of the terrorist act at Airport “Sarafovo” of 2012 received the heaviest sentences according to national legislation, although in absentia. Bulgaria and its law enforcement institutions will further continue to show zero tolerance towards manifestations of radicalism, Borislav Sarafov also pointed out.
The participants in the discussions became acquainted with the numerous investigations that the Israeli authorities are conducting to cut the channels of financing terrorist operations around the world.
During the working visit in the State of Israel, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov held talks with representatives of the US Department of Justice, high representatives of the German Prosecutor's Office and others.
