Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov discussed the cooperation between the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office, Eurojust and Europol with the heads of the two European institutions Ladislav Hamran and Catherine de Boll. The talks took place within the 17th meeting of the Consultative Forum of Prosecutors General and Heads of Prosecutions of the European Union (EU) Member States in The Hague, the Netherlands.
Borislav Sarafov also met with Lars Otte, Deputy Federal Public Prosecutor General of Germany, with whom they discussed best practices in training magistrates on counter-terrorism issues, as well as cooperation between the Bulgarian and German prosecution offices. During the forum, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov also held talks with Lithuanian Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė.
One of the highlights of the forum is a discussion of the latest information on the progress of the investigations into the war crimes committed since the beginning of the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. In the framework of the 17th meeting of the Consultative Forum of EU Prosecutors General, a decision was adopted by which Europol joined the international investigation team on war crimes in Ukraine.
The discussions also focused on the interaction between national prosecutors' offices in the framework of EMPACT - the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats. The EU-wide initiative takes an integrated approach to the internal security of the community, involving a range of measures from external border control, police, customs and judicial cooperation to information management, innovation, training, prevention and more.
Bulgaria is to host an EMPACT meeting on countering human trafficking. The Netherlands is the leading country in the initiative and representatives from EU member states, Ukraine and Moldova, as well as EUROJUST have been invited to participate in the event.
On the second day of the 17th meeting of the Consultative Forum of EU Prosecutors General, participants also discussed the role of prosecutors' offices in member states in protecting the environment.
