A Memorandum of cooperation between the Prosecutor's offices of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Azerbaijan was signed by the Prosecutors General of both countries, Ivan Geshev and Kamran Aliyev. The document provides for strengthening cooperation between the prosecutor's offices in preventing cross-border organized crime, the exchange of information, experience and good practices, as well as the conduct of research activities in the field of criminal law. The bilateral document will allow improving communication between prosecutors' offices.
The signing of the Memorandum took place at a ceremony in the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku, during the official visit of delegation of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria headed by the Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev.
"In Bulgaria, you have not only colleagues, but also friends," Ivan Geshev addressed his host after signing the memorandum. "If we work only formally, it will give the criminals the chance to be ahead of us, that's why we need a better partnership," Geshev pointed out and specified that it is particularly important in the fight against cross-border crime.
On his part, Kamran Aliyev welcomed the signing of the document, which opens a new stage in the relations between the two institutions. "Thus, we will work even more intensively against the violation of the law and in defense of the interests of citizens," said the Prosecutor General Azerbaijan. According to him, the human factor is essential for successful cooperation.
The Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev extended an invitation to Kamran Aliyev to visit Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian delegation, composed of the Deputy Prosecutor General and Director of the National Investigation Service Borislav Sarafov and the Spokesperson of the Prosecutor General Siyka Mileva, is to get acquainted with the work of the General Directorate "Anti-Corruption" under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan.
