Sofia City Prosecutor's assigned the State Agency for National Security to conduct check in connection with media publications about persons with properties in Bulgaria, sanctioned by the EU, USA and Great Britain, as well as about the operation of informal paramilitary structures on the territory of the country

On January 5, 2023, a prosecutor from Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SCPO) assigned check for a possible committed criminal offence, pursuant to Article 145, para 1, item 3 of the Judicial System Act.

The information spread in various Bulgarian media that citizens of the Russian Federation, included in various sanctions lists of the European Union, the USA and Great Britain, have acquired many real estates on the territory of the country and that legal entities, subject to sanctions, have also acquired real estate, as well as information in connection with publications about the existence of informal paramilitary structures operating on the territory of the country, who are reported to be trying to advance interests against the national security of the Republic of Bulgaria, will be checked.

The check has been assigned to the State Agency for National Security (DANS), and after completion, the materials should be reported to Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office to assess whether sufficient data has been collected to initiate pre-trial proceedings.

The public will be notified of the check results.
