Today, 14.10.2022, Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev hold a working meeting with the President of Eurojust Ladislav Hamran. The meeting was at the occasion of optimizing the work of Bulgarian Desk in Eurojust in order to achieve the priorities - countering cross-border crime and effectively assisting European countries in ongoing investigations.
Deputy Prosecutor General Desislava Pironeva and the Deputy National Member of Bulgaria at Eurojust, Elka Vaklinova attended the meeting.
Ladislav Hamran expressed concerns regarding the election procedure for representatives in the Bulgarian Desk given the fact that the incomplete composition of our Desk in Eurojust poses real risks to joint investigations of Bulgarian prosecutor's office and other EU member states.
The significant case volume was indicated by Mr. Hamran as a factor that suggests the rapid reaction of the national authorities when starting the procedure for the election of Bulgaria's representatives at Eurojust in an urgent manner with a view to successfully ensuring the work process.
Prosecutor General acqainted the President of Eurojust with the legislative amendments cocerning the election procedure of Bulgarian representatives, adopted by the 47th National Assembly, which is now significantly more complicated than the previous procedure. Ivan Geshev assured his colleague of the willingness of Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office and the competent institutions to fulfill the commitments entered into and to take actions with a view to successfully completing the procedure and filling the personnel capacity of the Bulgarian Desk in Eurojust.
Ivan Geshev and the President of Eurojust Ladislav Hamran expressed their satisfaction with the trust built between the two institutions, in the spirit of professionalism and common will to achieve results in the joint investigations of cross border crimes.
The meeting between both leaders was held during a visit of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev to the Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands, to participate in the 16th Meeting of the Consultative Forum of Prosecutors of Prosecutors General and Directors of Public Prosecutions of EU Member States, which took place in the period 13-14 October 2022.
