By order of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria a new structure was approved in the National Investigation Service (NIS), which will start functioning as of September 1, 2022. A new cybercrime investigation department is being created.
The department will carry out activities mainly on pre-trial proceedings and requests for legal assistance with particular factual and law complexity for a number of crimes committed on the Internet through information or communication systems or in another way.
The new structure was approved on a proposal of Borislav Sarafov, Director of NIS and Deputy of the Prosecutor General.
The goal is to improve the work organization in view of the trend observed in recent years of increase in pre-trial proceedings and requests for legal assistance, related to crimes committed in cyberspace.
