The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev met in Budapest with the Prosecutor General of Hungary Peter Polt. They spoke during the working visit of Bulgarian Prosecutor General to Hungary where the European Jewish Association Annual Conference is being held. Ivan Geshev and Peter Polt discussed the challenges both countries face in strengthening the rule of law in EU Member States. Both prosecutors emphasized the successful implementation of EU instruments, allowing fast, direct and effective communication and execution of European arrest warrants and European investigation orders, as well as transfer of criminal proceedings.
The traditionally successful cooperation between the Bulgarian and Hungarian judiciaries was emphasized, carried out in the spirit of professionalism and common commitment of prosecutorial institutions in combating cross-border crime and applying effective means to prevent and prosecute it.
Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Polt also took note of a positive trend in criminal law co-operation resulting from the Memorandum of cooperation signed in 2018 between the prosecutors' offices of both countries.
