Today, March 18, 2022, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office received a fax notification from an investigating police officer from the Directorate General National Police that on March 17, 2022 pre-trial proceedings were instituted under Art. 212, paragraph 3 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The first investigative measure was interrogation of a witness followed by searches and seizures. The pre-trial proceedings were initiated for a crime under Art. 213 a, paragraph 3, item 2 and item 5, para. 1 of the Criminal Code, carried out in the period from 2014 to December 2019. Sofia City Prosecutor's Office was also notified of the detention (for up to 24 hours) of the persons Boyko Borisov, Vladislav Goranov and Sevdalina Arnaudova in accordance with the Ministry of Interior Act.
The notification of pre-trial proceedings initiated by the Ministry of Interior, as well as the legal qualification indicated in it, exclude the competence of the European Prosecutor's Office in this case, which was the explanation contained in the initial announcement disseminated by the press center of the Ministry of Interior.
So far, the case has not been filed with the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.
