In connection with numerous inquiries from the media and the high public interest, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria clarifies that as of 09.00 on 18th March 2022 it has not yet been informed about the conduct of investigative actions "on the grounds of urgency" against politicians.
In view of the press release distributed to the media by the press center of the Ministry of Interior at 21.12 on 17th March 2022 stating that " there is a large-scale operation under way in connection with 120 cases of the European Public Prosecutor's Office in Bulgaria", according to Regulation (EU) 2017/1939 of the Council of the EU of 12th October 2017, the European Public Prosecutor's Office should be competent to investigate.
In case the information disseminated by the Ministry of Interior is accurate, you should address your questions to representatives of the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to Bulgarian law, when conducting investigative actions "on the grounds of urgency", the protocols should be submitted to a prosecutor for approval. Should this be done, the public will be informed.
