Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev is on a working visit to the European Parliament

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev is on a working visit to Brussels, where in the period 26 - 27 January 2022 he will hold working meetings with representatives of the European Parliament.

The main focus of the talks will be on the role of the judiciary and in particular the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria in strengthening the principles of the rule of law in Bulgaria, as well as the challenges facing our country in this regard. During the meetings, the legislative framework will be considered in the context of the ongoing judicial reform in Bulgaria in order to implement European standards in national legislation.

Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev will acquaint European parliamentarians with issues related to the protection of the rights of the LGBTI community, minority groups and disadvantaged people and the role of the Prosecution in overcoming them, as well as the leading role of the institution in preventing harmful foreign influence on the interests of the European Union and NATO member countries.

During his visit to Brussels, Ivan Geshev will join from the European Parliament in the remote meeting organized by members of the Monitoring Group of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, dedicated to monitoring democracy, the rule of law and human rights in Bulgaria.  In this regard, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria sent to the members of the Monitoring Group information on the current state of the issues, subject in previous discussions.
