Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev held meetings with the Prosecutor General and the President of the Supreme Court of Appeal of the Republic of Turkey

Today, January 24, 2022, the Bulgarian delegation headed by the Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev was received by the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Turkey Bekir Sahin and the President of the Supreme Court of Appeal of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Mehmet Akarca.

Prosecutor Ivan Geshev spoke with his Turkish colleague, Mr. Bekir Sahin, at whose invitation the official visit of representatives of the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office to the Republic of Turkey is taking place.

The delegation also includes Desislava Pironeva, Deputy Prosecutor General and Head of the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor's Office, and Siyka Mileva, spokesperson of the Prosecutor General. On the Turkish side, the official participants were Mr. Ridvan Gundogdu, Deputy Prosecutor General, Ilknur Altintas, Senior Prosecutor in charge of the International Relations, and prosecutors from the Supreme Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Turkey.

In the course of the official talks, the high level of trust and the good cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Offices of the two neighboring countries were mutually noted. Issues of bilateral interest were discussed, emphasizing the contribution of the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Bulgaria in limiting illegal migration in the region.

The two delegations also discussed other aspects of legal cooperation, including the fight against cross-border organized crime and the fight against terrorism.

The Bulgarian delegation also visited the new building of the Prosecutor's Office in Ankara.

The joint initiative on holding the Forum of General Prosecutors of the Balkan Region, which second meeting  was held in 2021 in Sofia was highly praised during the conversation between the Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev and the Turkish Prosecutor General Mr. Bekir Sahin.
