The Association of Prosecutors in Bulgaria today launched the "Prosecutor for a Day" program together with the Center for Ethnic Dialogue and Tolerance "Amalipe" and the “Arete” Youth Foundation on the occasion of the International Day of Tolerance - November 16. The initiative is a concept of the Crown Prosecution Service of the British Embassy in Sofia and complements the already well-known and successful other campaign - "Ambassador for a Day".
The program is focused on girls and boys of Roma origin between ages of 16 and 18 and its purpose is to encourage Roma youth from all over Bulgaria to consider a future role or professional career in the criminal justice system, giving them the opportunity to understand what it is like to be a prosecutor, to emphasize the importance of the rule of law among young people and to enable Roma youth to express their views on issues that affect us all.
The initiative will be presented in 5 different cities in Bulgaria, where there are Roma communities and which usually do not have access to other similar opportunities.
Participants will be able to get acquainted with the work of a prosecutor from their region, visit the local court and Prosecutor's Office and see how the judicial system works in their city. They will also have the opportunity to meet Roma law students, prosecutors and other experts from the judiciary. The program will end with a visit to Sofia and a tour of key judicial institutions, a meeting with chief prosecutors and participation in a discussion on the rule of law and the life of a prosecutor.
