On 10th February 2020 the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office made a claim to the Sofia City Court for withdrawal of the registration of Bulgarian National Union (BNU) Edelweiss, following the order of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev for inspection of the non-profit organization under the procedures of civil and judicia
On 10th February 2020 the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office made a claim to the Sofia City Court for withdrawal of the registration of Bulgarian National Union (BNU) Edelweiss, following the order of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev for inspection of the non-profit organization under the procedures of civil and judicial supervision.
Within the conducted inspection, Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office gathered a large amount of evidence, ascertaining the following:
The activities and main targets of the BNU – Edelweiss are in contradiction with the declared ones within the organization chart of the non-profit associations. In the last ten years the association has organized public events in contradiction to Article 44 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria according to which the organization/s activity shall not be contrary to the country’s sovereignty and national integrity or the unity of the nation, nor shall it incite racial, national, ethnic or religious enmity or an encroachment on the rights and freedoms of citizens; as well as organizations that establish clandestine or paramilitary structures or shall seek to attain its aims through violence.
In the inspection process were established many public speeches of the management team and members of the BNU – Edelweiss, declarations and statements of the organization’ members, promoting violence and hate speech, based on racial, ethnic, religious, gender discrimination, anti-Semitic propaganda etc.
Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office has found also that in contrary with the regulation of the Law for Non-profit legal entities, BNU – Edelweiss has established its own military structure and in public appearances of members, activists and supporters of the organization are dressed in military uniforms. It is stated that part of them have notified Sofia Municipality authority about the organization of Lukov March and represented themselves as “commanders”.
In the framework of Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office legal proceeding for the death of E.K., a member of the Management council of BNU-Edelweiss, were carried out search and seizure from the home of the person on 28 January 2020. There were found and seized many illegal firearms, ammunition, grenades, clothing with police attributes and Nazi literature, including the book of Adolf Hitler “My struggle. It was found that E.K. did not act on his own but with the support of the other members of the organization.
