Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev participates in a conference on the occasion of the first anniversary of the European Public Prosecutor's Office

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi together with the University of Luxembourg, organized a conference "European Public Prosecutor's Office one year in action: Towards resolving complexity and bringing added value". It takes place from 30 May to 1 June 2022 in Luxembourg. On behalf of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, Deputy Prosecutor General Desislava Pironeva participates in all sessions of the conference. The event aims to serve as a platform for the exchange of experience between legal practitioners involved in the procedures of the European Public Prosecutor's Office and to encourage further cooperation with it. 

The European Public Prosecutor's Office started its work on 1 June, 2021. For the one-year period the structure became a key partner, which functioning has its indisputable contribution to legal practice and interaction between national and international bodies, magistrates, legal communities, both within the EU and with third parties.

The conference in Luxembourg presents the initial experience and examines the current challenges and prospects for the work of the European Public Prosecutor's Office one year after its establishment.

In the first two days of the forum, the moderators of the discussions are leading representatives of the scientific community and lawyers from all over the world. The topics are dedicated to the implementation of various measures to optimize the work on protection of the EU's financial interests and the introduction of ways to overcome the existing legislative differences between the European Member States and the European Public Prosecutor's Office. Special consideration will be given to international cooperation with a view to achieving higher results in criminal prosecution in cases within the competence of the European Public Prosecutor's Office. 

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev will attend the official session of the conference, chaired by the European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi, on 1 June, 2022.
