The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office sent letters through the Ministry of Justice to the US Department of Justice requesting the information on which the findings of the competent US authorities regarding the six Bulgarian citizens and related companies were based.

The information, which served as a basis for the imposed sanctions, was requested in connection with the initiated inspections, after the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria referred the matter on its own initiative, on the occasion of official announcement of sanctions imposed on Bulgarian citizens by the Foreign Assets Control Service at the US Department of the Treasury.

It was the information announced by the competent US authorities that was the reason for the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office to take action in accordance with its powers. The information would help to clarify the subject of the initiated inspections and possible future criminal investigation.
