The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office on its own initiative referred a matter on the occasion of a publication of the Bulgarian edition of Radio Free Europe, which set out allegations of illegal actions against journalist Venelina Popova.
It has been established so far that in the pre-trial proceedings monitored by the Sliven Regional Prosecutor's Office, no instructions were given by a prosecutor to an investigating police officer to ask Popova the questions indicated in the publication. In this regard, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office has contacted the Inspectorate Directorate of the Ministry of Interior regarding the actions of the employee who conducted the interrogation.
Venelina Popova will be duly notified of the results of the inspection of the Supreme Prosecution Office.
